Common problems

Diabetes

Diabetes is a disorder that prevents one's body to control blood sugar levels. It is one of the main causes of early death, heart diseases, kidney disorders, strokes, and even blindness. People with excessive body mass, have almost twice the chance to develop diabetes, than people with normal body mass.

Heart problems

Heart problems and strokes, are among the most common problems associated with excessive weight and are also one of the most common cause of death in the modern civilization. What makes overweight people with heart disease prone to these problems, is largely a too high blood pressure. Very high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides can also be very dangerous. Angina is also one of the disorders associated with excessive weight, and can lead up to a stroke without any prior symptoms.

Cancer

Several types of cancer are associated with overweight. In women, this includes cervix cancer, breast and ovary cancer. For males, the most common types of cancer are prostate and rectum cancer.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a relatively common disease of the joints, and often occurs in the knees, hips, and lower parts of the back. Excess weight contributes further to these problems because of an additional pressure it makes on the joints. Because the tissue around the joints, which in normal conditions successfully serves as a protection, isn't effective any more, a number of additional problems can occur.

Sleep apnea

Sleep apnea is closely associated with excessive body mass. It is a disorder that is characterized by short periods of time during the sleep when a person stops breathing for a short time, and is usually accompanied by snoring. These difficulties can lead to a number of other problems, such as tiredness during the day because of bad sleep, and in extreme cases can cause strokes.

These are just some of the most common disorders associated with excessive body mass, although there is a correlation with many other diseases as well. Even only the above mentioned disorders constitute the majority of death causes in the world and one of the main conditions that leads to these problems is excessive weight, and generally unhealthy lifestyle. However, excessive body weight can be reduced to a normal level, and thereby the chance of developing these diseases and disorders can be greatly reduced. This should certainly be one of the main motives for a change, but certainly not the only one. If you think you have problems with excessive weight, I hope you already decided to change. Learning about ketogenic diet is a good way to start your journey towards a healthier way of life.
